What an NHL odds API returns in play
An NHL odds API returns the hockey event with the markets your board displays. The event supplies the two sides, score, period and game clock. Each selection carries a decimal price and implied probability, and each market carries its margin and an open or suspended state. Keep that state beside the price, since it tells your application whether the market accepts bets right now.
- Regulation result covers three periods of twenty minutes, with home, draw and away as outcomes.
- Next goal asks which side scores next, or whether there is no further goal.
- A goal window asks whether a goal falls inside the next 3 minutes of game clock.
- A shot window asks whether a shot on goal falls inside the next minute.
Use GET /api/v1/events?sport=ice-hockey&status=live to find games in play. Open /api/v1/stream?event={event_id} for streaming push of the full market set once a second. REST builds the first screen and streaming carries every later price and state without repeated polling.
Starter includes regulation result and next goal prices. Growth and Enterprise add the window markets through the same interface. The live odds API overview and the API documentation show the shared request and response structure.
How the goal model prices hockey
Hockey goals are scarce, around five or six in a typical game, and they arrive fairly independently. RealTimeBets prices them with a Poisson model. Each side has a scoring rate per minute, moved by a momentum reading of which side is pressing, and the model works from the current score and the time left.
From those rates it derives the regulation result, the next goal and the short windows from one source, so the markets never contradict each other. A one goal lead in the third period is fragile and the price shows how much time the trailing side still has. A quiet spell drifts toward the draw and no further goal.
Prices recompute every second and carry a margin of about 6 percent. The model records penalties as incidents but does not price power plays or the empty net as a separate strength state. Say so in your product copy if you compare it with a book that does.
Goal and shot window micro-markets for hockey
Hockey micro-markets follow the rhythm of shifts and penalties. The goal window covers 3 minutes of game clock, calmer than basketball or football windows because goals are rare. The shot window is the intense one. It locks at the start of its minute, settles yes at the first shot on goal and settles no when the minute ends empty.
A new window opens every minute of game clock, so there is always a fresh question while the puck is in play. Every market follows the event timeline and carries a lock time. Store the market key and lock time with the bet rather than the label, because the same label repeats every minute.
The micro betting generator handles opening, pricing, suspension and resolution. Check those transitions in the sandbox before you wire the markets into a production bet slip.

Suspension, risk and settlement on a hockey night
The puck can cross the line before most viewers register the shot, so markets cannot stay open through that moment. Affected micro-markets pause for about eight seconds after every goal, the new score is applied and they reopen at the new price. A penalty call triggers the same pause. Your front end should follow the published market state instead of running its own timer, and your acceptance service should confirm the market is still open before it confirms a bet.
Growth includes the risk engine with liability per market, a stake cap per customer and a sharp flag that halves limits. Send a proposed bet for a risk check, receive accepted, reduced or rejected, then record accepted bets so they count toward liability and can settle. These controls support your trading policy. You remain responsible for the markets and customers your license permits.
Settlement uses HMAC SHA-256 signed webhooks. A bet.settled delivery identifies the recorded bet and its result. Verify the signature over the timestamp and raw body with your endpoint secret and check the delivery identifier before you apply a wallet transaction, so a duplicate delivery never pays twice. The sportsbook API page describes the whole flow and the risk engine page covers trading controls.
NHL odds API pricing and plans
Choose a plan for the markets and operating tools your product needs. REST and streaming push are included on every plan. The pricing page lists monthly and yearly billing.
- Starter costs $499/mo or $249/mo billed yearly. It includes live odds REST and streaming push for 3 sports, regulation result and next goal prices, an event data feed, 500,000 requests, 2 streaming connections, widgets and signed settlement webhooks.
- Growth costs $1,999/mo or $999/mo billed yearly. It includes every sport and CS2, the micro-market generator with automatic suspension, the risk engine, model pricing with your margin, 5,000,000 requests and 10 streaming connections.
- Enterprise costs $4,999/mo or $2,499/mo billed yearly. It adds a white label front on your domain, wallet integration, cash out, SSO, an audit log and a 99.95% uptime SLA.
A sandbox key is issued at signup. It covers 1 sport with a 60 s delay and 1,000 requests over 7 days, and payloads carry "sandbox": true. Production keys require a paid plan and a stored license number, regulator and country. Affiliates and odds or media sites follow the same production path. Sandbox access does not require a gambling license.
When you need an NHL odds aggregator instead
If your product shows bookmaker lines from DraftKings, FanDuel or BetMGM, buy an aggregator that carries those books. The same goes for puck lines, totals, player props such as shots or points, and historical NHL odds. RealTimeBets supplies modeled regulation result and goal window markets. It does not supply those books' prices or their recorded line history, and it does not claim official league data.
The Odds API, SportsGameOdds, OpticOdds and odds-api.io are the usual aggregator choices. Compare them on the markets you display, not on the number of books alone. The The Odds API alternative guide walks through refresh intervals and push access.
